Japan in 10 days: Tokyo, Hakone, Kyoto and Osaka

A first trip to Japan in autumn, built by DimTrip's assistant from one request: three days in Tokyo, a ryokan night in Hakone, Kyoto with a day in Nara, and Osaka to finish. Here is the request, every day hour by hour, and what we fixed in the chat.

This Japan 10-day itinerary is a first trip in autumn, built by DimTrip's travel assistant from one request and then corrected in the chat. Below is the request, the ten days hour by hour, what we asked it to fix, and what to check before you book.

The request

Plan a 10-day first trip to Japan from 9 to 18 November 2026 for two people, flying into Tokyo and home from Osaka. Split it between Tokyo, Hakone, Kyoto and Osaka, with one night in Hakone. We want autumn leaves, temples, food markets and good coffee, plus a day trip to Nara. Early starts, relaxed evenings.

The assistant set out a plan, created the trip and filled all ten days: 63 stops, each with a start time. It added the six train rides as reservations, from the Romancecar into Hakone to the Rapi:t out to Kansai Airport. The ten days split into three in Tokyo, one in Hakone, four in Kyoto with the Nara day, and two in Osaka.

Two ryokan stops in the wrong place. On day 4, the onsen soak and the kaiseki dinner had been matched to an address in Gunma and to a hotel in Hong Kong. Before the first reply was over, the assistant offered to delete both. A deletion is the one change that waits for your OK, so nothing went until we answered.

We wanted to keep them, so we asked it to put both stops at our ryokan in Hakone Yumoto, and it moved them. It also said plainly that with no ryokan booking in the trip it could only place them at Hakone-Yumoto, not at the exact property. If you add the booking, it will re-point both stops to it.

A café that opens too late. The last morning had coffee at Mel Coffee Roasters at 09:30, but Mel opens at 11:00, after the airport train has left. The assistant searched for a café near Namba open by 09:30 and swapped in Brooklyn Roasting Company's Namba branch, which opens at 08:00. We checked the other early coffee stops ourselves, in Asakusa and Arashiyama, and both open in time.

Before you go

• Send the big suitcase ahead. For the Hakone night, have a luggage-delivery service take it from your Tokyo hotel to your Kyoto hotel, and travel with an overnight bag.
• Look at the Hakone Freepass. It covers the Hakone loop: the mountain railway, cable car, ropeway, lake boat and most buses. It is sold from Shinjuku or from Odawara, and this route leaves Hakone through Odawara. The Romancecar needs a limited-express ticket on top.
• Autumn leaves move each year. Kyoto's colour usually peaks from mid to late November. Check the forecast for your dates before you fix the temple days.
• Carry an IC card. Suica, PASMO or ICOCA, on your phone or as a card, pays for most local trains and buses in all four places, and at convenience stores.
